Jet, Flush, Repeat: How High Pressure Water Jetting Keeps Your Drains Flowing

How high pressure water jetting clears blockages and keeps drains flowing freely for homes and businesses across London and Essex.

High pressure water jetting is one of the most effective ways to clear a blocked drain properly, rather than just pushing the problem further down the pipe.

What high pressure jetting actually does

A jetting machine sends a controlled, high pressure stream of water through the drain using a specialist hose and nozzle. The force of the water breaks apart blockages and strips built up residue from the inside of the pipe, rather than just punching a hole through the middle of the obstruction as a rod might do.

This means the pipe is left clean along its full diameter, not just clear enough for water to trickle through, which reduces the chance of the same blockage forming again in the short term.

What jetting can clear

High pressure jetting is effective against a wide range of blockages and build ups that commonly affect drains in both domestic and commercial properties.

  • Fat, oil and grease build up in kitchen drains
  • Wet wipes, sanitary products and general debris
  • Tree root ingress in combination with cutting equipment
  • Silt and general sediment in outside drainage runs
  • Scale and residue that restrict pipe diameter over time

Why jetting is often better than rodding alone

Rodding can be effective for a straightforward blockage but tends to leave residue on the pipe walls, which means the same section is more likely to block again before long. Jetting clears the full internal surface of the pipe, giving a more thorough and longer lasting result.

For particularly stubborn build ups, jetting is often combined with drain descaling to remove hardened scale and grease that a standard jet alone might not fully shift.

Using jetting as preventative maintenance

Jetting is not just for emergencies. Many landlords and commercial property managers schedule regular jetting visits to keep drainage systems clear before a blockage has the chance to form, particularly in kitchens and other high use areas where fat and food waste are a regular feature.

Pairing a scheduled jetting programme with an occasional CCTV drain survey gives a clear picture of how the system is holding up over time.

Is jetting safe for all pipework

Jetting pressure is adjusted to suit the age, material and condition of the pipe being cleaned, which is why it should always be carried out by an experienced engineer rather than attempted with hired equipment. Older or already damaged pipework may need a gentler approach, sometimes informed by a CCTV drain survey beforehand.
