Root removal

Professional Root Removal from Drains

Tree and shrub roots cut out of drainage runs, followed by a camera check to show why they got in and what will stop them returning.

Roots do not break into sound pipework at random. They find moisture escaping from a cracked pipe or an open joint, then grow towards it. Cutting them out is only half the job.

  • Mechanical cutting and high pressure jetting
  • Camera survey to find the entry point
  • Advice on repair or lining where the defect is significant
  • Recurring maintenance where a tree is protected and cannot be removed

How to spot root ingress

Slow drainage that worsens gradually, repeated blockages in the same place, and gurgling from a gully close to a mature tree are the usual signs. On camera, the roots appear as a fine mat across the pipe.

Removing them properly

Cutting heads remove the root mass, and jetting flushes the debris out rather than leaving it to form the next blockage. We then survey the cleaned pipe to see the defect the roots used.

Stopping them coming back

If the joint or fracture is repaired or lined, the moisture trail disappears and the roots stop being drawn to it. Where the tree is protected, a maintenance interval keeps the run clear in the meantime.
